Wedding Dress Shopping - love it or fear it?

Updated: May 1

For many brides it's an exciting journey of discovery. Do I want to feel like a Princess? Do I want to feel sexy? Do I want a rustic BoHo style?

But where to start?......

  1. Start Early: Begin your wedding dress search well in advance to allow time for ordering and alterations. Depending on the Designer, wedding dresses can take up to 4 months to arrive after ordering. My personal advice is between 9 and 12 months before your wedding, but don't despair if you're getting married sooner. There are plenty of other options too.

  2. Set a Budget: It's always advisable to have a budget in mind for your wedding dress - there's nothing worse that falling in love with a dress only to discover its way out of your price range! And don't forget those little extras that can all add up, a veil, tiara possibly a hooped underskirt and almost all wedding gowns will need some form of alterations.

  3. Book Appointments: If you're visiting a bridal shop, it's usually by appointment to ensure that you receive the personal attention you deserve. This gives the bridal consultant time to explore different wedding dress styles and silhouettes to establish the best style for you during your appointment. Considerations will include what styles suit your body shape, wedding theme, and personal taste. You can book a personal 1-2-1 consultation with me for a tryly personal appointment that lasts one and a half hours.

4. Who should you bring?: So many girls watch "Say Yes To The Dress" and think that's how it works! WRONG! In my experience the fewer people that attend your first appointment the better. And you will get the best experince as you won't be influenced by people whose opinions might make your decisions harder not easier!

5. Wear the Right Underwear: Whilst it doesn't matter that much, I would always suggest that you wear undies that you are happy to be seen in. Pale colours are best and if you have a strapless bra, even better!

6. Keep an Open Mind: While it's good to have an idea of what you like, be open to trying on lots of different styles. You will be amazed by what looks and feels best on your body.

7. RELAX.......... When you find the dress that feels right, trust your instincts! If you're excited and comfortable, it's likely the right choice!

Remember, the most important thing is that you feel beautiful and confident in your chosen wedding dress.
